Guangzhou Women's and Children's Medical Center (hereinafter referred to as "City Women's and Children's Medical Center") is the largest public third-class women and children's specialist hospital in South China that integrates prevention, medical treatment, health care, scientific research, and teaching. It was formed by the integration of the former Guangzhou Children's Hospital, Guangzhou Maternity and Child Health Hospital (Guangzhou Maternity and Infant Hospital), and Guangzhou Population and Family Planning Technical Service Guidance Office. It is a municipal deputy bureau-level institution. In August 2017, it was approved by the Guangzhou Municipal Government to take over the Zengcheng District Maternal and Child Health Care Hospital; planning to build new hospital areas in Nansha and Zengcheng District where maternal and child medical resources are relatively short. In the comprehensive ranking of Fudan's best hospitals, it has been ranked among the top 100 in the country for eight consecutive years. Pediatric Surgery and Pediatrics are ranked 5th and 9th in Fudan Specialty.

Guangzhou Women and Children's Medical Center is the National Children's Regional Medical Center (Central South Region). The state has established a complete modern hospital management system as a pilot hospital and the second batch of high-level hospitals in Guangdong Province. At present, it has 3 key clinical specialties of the Ministry of Health (Pediatric Surgery, Pediatric Respiration, Pediatric Digestion), 7 key clinical specialties of Guangdong Province; approved the establishment of Guangdong Children's Health and Disease Clinical Medicine Research Center and Guangdong Early Childhood Development Application Project Technology Research Center and Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Structural Birth Defect Disease Research. It is the Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University (not directly affiliated), the Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University (not directly affiliated), the teaching practice base of Southern Medical University, and the graduate training base of Jinan University. The School of Pediatrics of Guangzhou Medical University has been established.

The center makes full use of information technology, artificial intelligence and other technologies to vigorously promote the construction of smart hospitals and actively develop "Internet" + medical treatment. It has passed the seven-level review of the national electronic medical record rating and the five-level B review of the national medical and health information interconnection standardization maturity assessment. In April 2019, as one of the first batch of Internet hospitals in the province, the Internet Hospital of the Municipal Women's and Children's Medical Center was officially put into operation, realizing new medical service models such as comprehensive management of children's health, and leading medical service innovation.
